A High-Level Look at Dental Health

By July 1, 2018 No Comments

While most of us know that dental health is important, not many of us know the specific guidelines that we should abide by. Getting your teeth and gums checked on a regular basis is important not only for your oral health but for your overall health as well, as research has shown a link between oral diseases and other widely known health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. Attending regular dental check-ups and maintaining good oral health is essential to maintaining overall health.

How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?

Typically, your teeth and gums should be checked by your dental team at least every 6-12 months. Various factors affect how often you should visit the dentist, including how well you care for your teeth and gums, how fast plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, your risk for cavities, and any existing oral health problems you may have.

What Will My Dentist Be Looking For?

During your dental exam, your dentist will look for early signs of oral cancer, cavities, tooth fractures, infections, and many other diseases. Your dental hygienist will also look for signs of gum disease, clean your teeth and gums, as well as counsel you on proper brushing and flossing techniques.
